you don't always know. that you don't always know where it will come from, but he is good on policy. it understands it well. the media loves to put itself on the couch an self-analyze and grandize of course. you know, they have to give -- they give themselves more award ceremonies than hollywood does. >> greg: true. i want to talk about the reporters have that have been complaining about access to the president. others, the idea they are scared to get in the face of the president for fear it will hurt their chances more. this is jay carney, defending press access or lack thereof. >> i'm sympathetic of the difficulties of the job, covering any white house apt desire for more and more access. we work every day with you and others to provide that.

right wing agenda that is antiunion and antiblack. why does it go back to race? can't they admit they haven't managed the finances kel and now they are in a heap of trouble? >> this is not the first city, that has been taken over by a state. you are probably too young to remember this. good for you but not for me i remember gerald ford said about new york when they new york asked for help and the headline said ford to new york, drop dead. there are number of cities for the bail-out. unfunded mandates they've got are a lot of retirement contracts that are still up in the city. this is a population over 50%. no one left in the city. poor people. the auto industry is not just in trait. it's spread throughout the midwest. >> dana: people below poverty is 26%.

the schools that took over the schools, this could have been a big, technology renaissance place, they could have retooled themselves so to speak. they need to shrink the size of the city and figure out what is sustainable and what is manageable in the current global come pettive climate. >> andrea: what is scary when cities face this, there is less money for cops and firefighters, we saw governor kasich in ohio, they have the nuance tax. but the good news they can't borrow more money. the bad news is they can't borrow any more money. what does a city do? they are in an untenable position. obama didn't want to take on the unions and the other groups asked to take cuts.

they have to declare a bankruptcy. do something like that. restructure their debt. do cuts across the board. remark mentions. nobody is going to want to do, thatmen a strong union city. that is the problem. also, there isn't really any major attraction to bring outside industry there because of the crumbling infrastructure. >> andrea: what about the administration, bob, as well? they have championed detroit. we bailed them out before. we're not going to help them again. >> bob: this may be the first city where we see the first test of the long-term unfunded map dates where a court, not politicians but a court says the city cannot pay this. i think this will be the first of many. if those who are expecting to have the retirement will find out that judge will rule, bankruptcy rule this cannot be paid. therefore you are going to cut you back to 80%.

>> dana: you know who suffer from that is the younger workers. the pension they had before, the retirement packages are not available to younger workers. they will have to pay more in the previous generations retirement packages. they are squeezed again. generation in their 20s is the one that i think about a lot. because they're under a lot of stress. >> eric: there is not many place -- bloc is not many places anymore. most cities are cognizant before they give you long-term retirement benefit. my guess is that of the past. >> andrea: what about city like new york you can't break the pensions. it's in the constitution, you can't break them. greg, you are from california. they have seen a bunch of cities with bankruptcy.
